What is an impeller and what does it do?
An impeller is a rotating component of a marine water pump, shaped like a small wheel with flexible rubber blades. Its job is to pump sea or coolant water through the engine's cooling system and prevent overheating. As it spins, the blades create a steady flow of water that carries heat away from the engine, which is essential for reliable performance during long trips. Thanks to its compact size, efficiency and easy maintenance, the impeller is an indispensable part of every inboard and outboard engine.

When should you replace an impeller?
An impeller wears out over time, so regular replacement is key to a properly working cooling system. We recommend replacing it once a year, and no later than every two years. Signs that it is time for a new impeller include: engine overheating, reduced water flow at the exhaust, and damaged or cracked blades.
