The DIN 6799 retaining washer (E-clip, horseshoe clip, retaining washer for shafts) axially secures gears, levers, rollers, pins and other components on a shaft. Unlike a DIN 471 circlip it has no lug holes – it is pushed radially into the groove from the side. The standard covers nominal sizes from Ø0.8 to Ø30 mm.
How the size is defined
The nominal designation of a DIN 6799 washer is the groove diameter, not the shaft diameter. Example: a Ø6 mm washer seats in a 6 mm groove and is used on shafts of Ø7–9 mm.
