The variable speed belt (variator belt, wide V-belt for speed changers) is a drive belt for continuously variable speed drives – variators with adjustable pulleys. It is wider than a standard V-belt, and its high transverse stiffness ensures reliable power transmission at changing transmission ratios. Dimensions are designated as width × height × length in mm (e.g. 30x10x1000), in line with ISO 1604 and DIN 7719. Available in widths of 17–37 mm, heights of 5–18 mm and lengths of 606–1800 mm.

Designation and selection

  • Designation e.g. 30x10x1000: top width of the belt (30 mm) × height (10 mm) × length (1000 mm)
  • Length is given as inside (Li), effective (Ld) or outside (La) length – compare the same length type when replacing
  • Measure width and height on the existing belt or according to the variator pulley groove

Construction

  • Raw edge sides for improved grip on the pulley and reduced slippage
  • Cogged (notched) underside for flexibility on small diameters and better heat dissipation
  • Tension section with high-modulus cords – transmits high loads with minimal stretch
  • Compression section with high transverse stiffness for operation on adjustable pulleys
